Assignment #3
The image portrays exactly the meaning of tyranny of the majority with the phrase,"If everyone was jumping off a cliff, would you do it too?" In other words, just because everyone else is doing it, doesn't mean that you should. Take my brother's girlfriend for example, she sees the celebrities eating Pinkberry yogurt, and now she has to have that crap. When really it is just some over priced yogurt that you can get at any supermarket. It's all part of the whole materialistic lifestyle that people live, with their gucci this and coach that. It makes me sick.

Very true! Celebrities seem, to catch the eyes of lots of people these days. It's important to make your own decisions and not just follow the crowd.
yep yep... its call being in the "in crowd." we try to get the newest best thing, like nintendo wii, than later you find out everyone has it.
Unfortunally what you say its true, many people follow what celebrities say, do, or how they dress. It seems as if people nowadays cannot make their own decisions in the way they want to live their lifestyle. It doesn't matter what kind of car, clothes, or any materialistic things someone has because that does not make someone who he/she is in reality. Too sad that many people don't see or feel it that way!!!!!!!1
i agree with you. It seems like everyone follows what the celebrities do, say, wear, and buy.
You are very right, we live in a society that is compelled to have the name brand things. But it digs down deeper that just gucci or coach. How often when you are in the grocery store do you grab the generic brand? I extends to even that. We are so insecure as a country that we cannot even handle buying generic brand items.
That was funny!!! But soooo true... As a society we are very materialistic and only want name brand items. Thinking that it will make us feel good, although it does for a while and then just goes away. And, then we just want something else. It's a cycle, we just never have enough.
"Keeping up with the Joneses" has become such a huge thing in our society that not only do we think we have to have name brand everything, but we use material possessions to determine an individual's character most of the time. People who don't drive the right kind of car, wear the latest fashions, drink a certain type of bottled water, live in a certain area, etc., are looked at in a negative light.
